This in-person summer workshop is designed to help middle school students build the executive function and study skills they need to manage schoolwork more confidently and become more independent learners.
Over five fun, hands-on sessions, students will learn practical strategies for:
These essential skills support learning across all subjects and help students feel more in control of their academic responsibilities.
Through fun interactive activities, self-assessments, and goal-setting exercises, students not only learn what skills matter for success in school, but also why they matter and how to use them in real-life situations.
Course Format:
To support learning at home, parents receive a prerecorded webinar that covers the key strategies taught in the course, along with helpful tips for encouraging skill development and independence outside the classroom.
This course is ideal for rising 6th-8th grade students who are looking to strengthen their organization, time management, study skills, and overall learning strategies.
While the course can benefit most middle schoolers, it may not be the best fit for students with significant learning challenges that impact their ability to retain and apply new information without individualized, intensive support. Students who need highly specialized instruction or one-on-one remediation for specific learning disabilities may benefit more from personalized academic or therapeutic intervention services.

Middle school is a time when students face a big jump in academic expectations — they’re expected to manage multiple classes, keep track of assignments, study independently, and plan ahead for projects and tests. But many students haven't yet developed the executive function skills they need to handle these new responsibilities confidently.
This course helps middle schoolers build the essential tools for success: organization, time management, goal-setting, effective study habits, and problem-solving. Learning these skills early not only helps students feel less overwhelmed and more in control now, but it also sets them up for a smoother, more successful transition into high school and beyond.
Executive function skills include planning, organization, time management, and self-monitoring. These are the foundational skills that help students prepare for schoolwork, complete assignments on time, study effectively, and problem-solve when challenges come up. Without strong executive function skills, even students who understand the material may struggle to keep up with their workload or study efficiently.
No, this course is not traditional tutoring. Tutoring usually focuses on helping a student understand specific academic subjects like math, reading, or science. In contrast, this course teaches executive function skills and study strategies, which are the mental tools students need to manage their learning overall — no matter the subject.
In short: instead of focusing on what to learn (like tutoring does), this course focuses on how to learn, organize, and manage schoolwork — giving students lifelong tools for success.
